AL Qalam Center is pleased to offer the following Programmes of
The Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) courses primarily aim to help
studentsacquire the skills tointeract with the written form of MSA.
Towards this aim, the various levels present and revise the
grammar and the morphology of MSA and activities are directed
toward developing the skills and strategies necessary for the
effective reading listening and discussing of authentic materials.
The Programme is designed on topics to ensure effective recycling
of vocabulary and the transfer of linguistic knowledge between
the 4 skills (reading, listening, speaking and writing).
The MSA programme:
NOVICE Stage:
At levels 0 to 3,
Level 0: This level introduces the Arabic Script and the phonetic
system. And to read simple authentic texts with the use of the
dictionary.

Level 1: This level presents the basic grammatical components
.of MSA i.e. nominal and verbal sentences and listening exercises.

Level 2: This level teaches the simple nominal and verbal
structures, also teaches simple conjunctions for the formulation
of longer and more complex sentences. The student learns basic
beginner vocabulary, reading at an introductory pace, and Listening
exercises.

Level 3: By the end of this level students should be able to
Comprehend the gist of straightforward texts, understand listening
exercises, and should be able to summarise the content of this text
with the help of a dictionary.

INTERMEDIATE Stage:
At levels 4 to 7,
level 4: This level develops effective reading strategies to enable
students to handle more complex authentic texts. At this level,
students are able to listen to and understand the gist of short,
straightforward audio material.

level 5:Students are encouraged in this level to express
themselves in Arabic through discussions and improve on
the students' previous experience and knowledge. In particular,
it aims to increase the speed and accuracy of comprehension
of written materials.

level 6: Students are encouraged to express opinions, compare
and contrast, summarise and synthesise the content of the articles
that they read.

level 7: The student acquires more vocabulary, Arabic syntax,
intensively studying Arabic grammar.

ADVANCED Stage:
At levels 8 to 11, These advanced integrated skills courses
focus on developing proficiencyin reading complex material
and developing the accuracy and complexity of the written
and oral skills. They are courses oriented topically to provide
for reviewing of vocabulary and structure and the integration
of all language skills. Remedial grammar is done through the
students' writing. During these levels, the student studies
Arabic Rhetoric and the History of Arabic Literature.
